The settings area
The settings area is where you configure everything that sits behind your day-to-day project work — company details, users, permissions, master data, default values, and external integrations. You can reach it from the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar by clicking All Settings, or by navigating directly to any settings page from the menu's sub-groups.
How settings are organised
Settings are grouped into sections in the sidebar:
| Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
| General | Your user profile and Ensign access controls |
| Company | Company details, user accounts, and permission assignments |
| Data | Master data — clients, suppliers, employees, site addresses, project types, VAT rates, accounts, payment terms, regions, and more |
| Labour | Payroll, operatives, trades, skill levels, and certification types |
| Subcontractor | Subcontractor records, types, certificates and cards, insurance policies |
| Configuration | System defaults, system notes, and document number prefixes |
| System | Action-level permissions (RBAC) and accounting/tracking integrations |
Some settings pages are restricted by role. Company management requires administrator access, RBAC requires Admin or Super Admin, and Connections requires Super Admin. Labour and asset pages are available to Ensign staff only.
