What the dashboard shows you
The company dashboard is the first screen you see after logging in. It gives you a high-level view of your company's project portfolio — financial summaries, recent projects, compliance alerts, and analytics charts — all in one place.
Dashboard filters
Two filters at the top of the dashboard control which data is displayed across the entire page.
Date range
Click the date range picker to choose a time period. You can select a preset — Today, This Week, This Month, Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, Last Year, or All Time — or pick a custom range using the calendar.
Status filter
Click the Status button to filter by project status. You can select multiple statuses at once. The badge on the button shows how many statuses are currently active. Use Select All or Clear All to quickly adjust the filter.
When no statuses are selected, all projects are shown regardless of status.
Compliance alerts
If any employee certifications, subcontractor documents, or equipment checks are expiring or have already expired, an alerts banner appears near the top of the dashboard.
Alerts are grouped into three categories:
| Group | What it tracks |
|---|---|
| People Compliance | Employee certifications and qualifications |
| Subcontractor Compliance | Subcontractor certifications and insurance policies |
| Equipment | Asset and equipment compliance checks |
Each alert shows the item name, who or what it belongs to, the expiry date, and how many days remain. Expired items are highlighted in red, items expiring soon in amber.
Click a group heading to expand or collapse it.
Review the compliance alerts regularly. Catching an expiring certificate before it lapses can save you from compliance issues on site.
Recent projects
Below the alerts, a table shows your five most recently created projects. Each row displays the project number, name, description, status, type, region, client, contract value, and who created it.
You can:
- Search — type in the search box above the table to find a specific project by name or number.
- Filter columns — use the column filters for Status, Region, Type, Client, Project Manager, or Site Manager to narrow the list.
- Include archived projects — open the view options dropdown and tick Include Archived Values.
- Open a project — click the project number or name to go straight to that project's detail page.
Key metric tiles
A row of tiles shows headline financial figures across your filtered projects:
| Tile | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Global Sales Value | Total sales value across all filtered projects |
| Global Projected Profit | Total projected profit |
| Global Labour Cost | Total estimated labour cost |
| Global Retention | Total retention value held |
| Global MCD | Total MCD (main contractor's discount) value |
These figures update automatically when you change the date range or status filters.
Analytics charts
The bottom section of the dashboard contains a set of interactive charts that visualise your project data.
| Chart | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Project Value Over Time | A trend line showing how total project value has changed month by month over the past 12 months |
| Managers | A horizontal bar chart of the top 10 project managers or site managers by value |
| Value by Status | A donut chart breaking down total value by project status |
| Value by Clients | A horizontal bar chart of your top 5 clients by project value |
| Regions | A horizontal bar chart breaking down value by region |
| Value by Type | A horizontal bar chart of the top 5 project types by value |
| Project Values | A stacked bar chart comparing the top 5 individual projects by value |
All charts respect the date range and status filters you have set at the top of the page.
Customising the chart layout
You can rearrange and show or hide charts to suit your workflow.
- Reorder — drag and drop any chart to move it to a different position in the grid.
- Show or hide — right-click anywhere in the chart area to open a context menu listing all available charts. Tick or untick a chart to toggle its visibility.
- Reset — select Reset to Defaults from the context menu to restore the original chart layout.
Your chart preferences are saved in your browser, so they persist between sessions.
If all charts are hidden, a message appears letting you know. Right-click to open the context menu and re-enable the charts you want to see.
Sidebar navigation
The sidebar on the left is your main way of moving around Project Commander. It contains links to every major module:
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Returns you to this page |
| Projects | View and manage all projects |
| Reports | Company-wide reporting and analytics |
| Timesheets | Employee time tracking |
| Direct Invoices | Invoices not tied to a specific project |
| Direct Credit Notes | Credit notes not tied to a specific project |
Some sidebar items — such as Calendar, Actions, Work Packages, Assets, Tracking, Availability, and Forms — are available to Ensign staff only. If you cannot see an item you expect, check with your administrator.
User menu
Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar to access your user menu. From here you can:
- Open Settings (company, data, and system configuration)
- Access Support and Release Notes
- Switch between light and dark mode
- Adjust the zoom level
- Log out
If you are a company administrator, the menu also includes quick links to Manage Company, Manage Users, and Manage Permissions.
