What you'll see
When you open a project, you land in the Project View. It's the home base for working with drawings inside one job. Three areas matter:
- The breadcrumb at the top — your location in the system.
- The services and files panel — every drawing, organised into services.
- The Actions menu in the top-right — project-wide operations.
The breadcrumb
The breadcrumb at the top shows where you are:
Projects / [Project Name] / [Service Name] / [File Name] ▾
Each segment is clickable:
- Projects — returns to the dashboard.
- [Project Name] — returns to this Project View from inside a drawing.
- [Service Name] — focuses the service panel.
- [File Name] ▾ — opens the file-selection sheet to switch drawings without leaving the editor.
If you have unsaved changes, clicking a breadcrumb segment opens the Leaving Takeoff dialog — "Are you sure you want to leave?" — with Cancel and Leave buttons.
The services and files panel
This is where your drawings live. Each service is a folder-like grouping for drawings of the same trade or discipline (lighting, small power, fire alarm, and so on).
- Drawings appear as cards inside their service.
- Click a service header to collapse or expand it.
- Each service has its own Actions menu for rotation, rename, clear, and delete.
- Each file has its own dotted menu for rotation, download, and delete.
If the project is empty, you'll see the upload zone — "Upload or drag file to start" . See Uploading drawings.
Selecting files to open
Tick the checkbox on one or more files and click Submit in the bottom-right. The first file opens in the editor; the others are queued for review. ZeroCount also remembers the last-active file in this project and ticks it for you automatically — see Last-active file.
The project Actions menu
Click Actions in the top-right of the Project View. The items, in order:
| Item | Icon | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh | Reloads the project's file list from the server. Use this if a file you uploaded elsewhere isn't visible. | |
| Duplicate | Makes a full copy of the project under a new name. See Duplicating a project. | |
| Update | Opens the Update Project dialog to edit Name, Client, Type, Description. See Updating a project. | |
| Export Job | Downloads a .sqlite file of the whole project for the estimating side of Ensign.Software. | |
| Archive / Unarchive | / | Removes the project from the Active list, or brings it back. See Archiving and restoring. |
Items above and below the separators are grouped by purpose — refresh-style actions at the top, edit actions in the middle, export/archive at the bottom.
What's not here
A few things people look for and don't find:
- No Delete Project — projects can only be archived, not deleted. By design.
- No "Rename" on its own — renaming happens via Update.
- No per-card right-click menu in the dashboard — all project-level actions live inside the project, not on the dashboard card.
