When to create a project
Create a new project at the start of each tender or job. Everything for that job — drawings, markers, scales, zones, database links — goes inside this single project, and that's also the boundary the Excel export covers.
How to create one
- 1
On the Projects dashboard, click New Project in the top-right.
- 2
Fill in the New Project dialog. Only Project Name is required — the other three fields are optional but worth populating because they flow through to the Excel export header.
- 3
Click Create . The button changes to Creating… while the project is created.
- 4
On success, you'll see a toast — "Project Created — [name] has been created successfully." — and the new project appears in your list.
The four fields
| Field | Required | Example | Where it shows up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Project Name | Yes | Riverside Phase 2 — Lighting | Dashboard, breadcrumb, Excel header (Project), export filename prefix |
| Client | No | Acme Construction Ltd | Dashboard column, Excel header (Client) |
| Project Type | No | Lighting & small power | Dashboard column (Type) |
| Project Description | No | A short paragraph | Dashboard column (Description) |
Pick the Project Name carefully — it becomes the prefix of every Excel file you export ({Project Name} - quantities-export.xlsx). Renaming the project later renames the prefix too.
What you can change later
Everything. If you typed the name wrong, picked the wrong client, or want to extend the description, open the project and use Actions → Update . See Updating a project.
If something goes wrong
If creation fails you'll see an error toast — "Error — Failed to create project. Please try again.". The usual cause is a brief connection drop. Wait a moment and retry. If it keeps failing, check the WebSocket indicator and the troubleshooting guide.
